What if it’s not so much a spring cleaning As it is a spring healing? A turning towards safety, Building up a little nest like the robin or sparrow, Selecting a tree and collecting twigs, Creating padding and cushioning where there once was none. Looking not toward the sprout or the stem But cultivating the soil, Making sure it has oxygen, water, is free of weeds. The basics. What we need, too. What spring reminds us of. Safety, security, stability — How can new life be sustained without these? Before the downy goslings And the blossoming tulips There were the eggs The seeds The darkness. Slowly, over time, fed a diet of Safety, security, stability, Routine, rhythm, ritual, In the darkness. Survival, yes, But support. A mothering. A caretaking. A recovery. Soon enough, growth. But for now, Healing.
